We are looking for people who are interested in learning a little local history and being a museum guide at the Alexander Majors House & Museum for a few hours on a weekend afternoon. You do not have to be a history major or expert speaker. Information about the house, the barn, and the collection will be provided to you.

Women’s History Celebration

Join us as we travel through time to meet some women from the past. Costumed re-enactors will feature some of history’s most amazing women. These adventurers, explorers and rebels used individual talents and strengths to overcome adversity and hardship. They opened doors for women and made the world a better place for all. Let HER-STORIES inspire you, your daughters and sons too!

Frozen Charlotte: the MUST HAVE doll of 1860

Where: At the Alexander Majors House Barn

Description: In a joint partnership, the Toy and Miniature Museum and the Majors House will present Frozen Charlotte, a fun and interactive family program at the Majors House. Frozen Charlotte was the subject of a 19^th century New England ballad and the name became popular to describe German bisque dolls. Learn about the history of the doll, hear a dramatic interpretation of the ballad and make your own Victorian scrap paper collage art with a Frozen Charlotte doll

Price: $6 fee, members of Wornall/Majors House and the Toy and Miniature Museum are free

Summer Camps are Coming!!

Come experience life on the Missouri Frontier. This is an active and interactive camp for kids who have finished kindergarten up through age 12. Full of hands on activities designed to immerse the child into the 1860′s, this camp makes history fun and educational. Four days of each week are spent at the Alexander Majors House, and Fridays will be held at the John Wornall House Musuem.

Activities include: Sheep Shearing, Candle Dipping, Music and Dance, Blacksmithing, Pioneer Games, Storytelling and much much more.

Four Week Long Sessions to Choose From:

June 11- 15

July 9-13

July 30- Aug 3

August 6-10

Time: 9am – 4pm

Border War Reflections

Local actress Stephanie Goodman will bring to life Margaret Hays, of Jackson County and abolitionist, Julia Lovejoy, Kansas Territory, in this dramatic interpretation of Missouri’s troubled past. Ms Goodman has done extensive research and written the script using letters and diaries from both women. Hear thier first hand accounts of local events including The Pottawatomie Massacre, the woman’s prison collapse and Order Number 11.

Usually a one woman show, Ms. Goodman has expanded her script for this performence to include musicians, a gospel ensombel, and a full cast of actors.

When: April 6

Time: 7pm

Adults $10, Students age 12 and under and Senior Citizens, $5
